Missing patient found dead on hospital roof

‘Rafique, a resident of the municipality area, was admitted to the hospital for treatment of cold related diseases’ Hazi Rafique Bepari, a 70-year old patient at Munshiganj Hospital who had been missing for four days, was found dead on the roof of the building on Thursday.

Mizan Bepari, nephew of the deceased, said his uncle had been admitted to the hospital on June 6 while in critical condition.

“We had not found him after he went missing on June 11,” he said. Later, a general diary was filed with Munshiganj Sadar police station, Mizan added.

Civil Surgeon Siddiqur Rahman said: “Rafique, a resident of the municipality area, was admitted to the hospital for treatment of cold related diseases and he was registered in the book on June 6.”

It was first noticed that Rafique was missing during a routine check of his room on the morning of June 11. On Thursday morning, when some of the hospital staff went to the roof, they found him dead, Siddiqur added.

The employees of the hospital had begun a search for him when he went missing and continued it, said SM Shakhawat Hossain, resident medical officer of the hospital.

Younus Ali, officer-in-charge of the police station, said that Rafique had been suffering from a mental disorder and that he had a history of leaving home alone.

The cause of death would be determined after an investigation, the OC said. The body was sent to the hospital morgue for autopsy.
