Woman beaten up for marrying married man

sathiSome local influential people have beaten up a woman for marrying married man at Fainpur village of Sreenagar upazila in Munshiganj district on Monday.

Upon information, human right activists led by Alo Rani Sarkar, Rezaul Karim Khan and Selina Akter have rescued the victim Sathi Akter, 22.

Locals said Anna Akter, sister of Union Parishad member Nazma Akter, told Sathi to divorce Tota Mia as it was his second marriage.

As Sathi denied to do so, Anna Akter beat her up chaining her with a tree, confining her husband inside the room. Tota has a son and a daughter.
Right activist Rezaul Karim Khan said: “I became astonished to see that hundreds of the villagers were quietly witnessing the shameful scene of beating up the girl.”

OC of Shreenagar police station said he was not aware of the incident.

Sathi lived with her mother in a rented house in Fainpur, hailed from Kumarkandi village under Jajira upazila of Shariatpur.
