At least 12 people were injured in a clash between the activists of Awami League and BNP over a trivial matter in Atpara union under Sreenagar upazila yesterday.
Police said, local Jubo Dal and ruling AL men engaged in an altercation over taking hotchpotch at an election campaign meeting of Selim Ahmed Bhuyan, an AL-backed candidate in the upcoming upazila polls, on Wednesday night.
As a sequel to the conflict, Jubo Dal activists attacked and vandalised Atpara union AL office yesterday, leaving 12 people injured.
Enraged by the incident, AL men launched a counter attack and vandalised local BNP office.
Contacted, union Jubo Dal president Motahar Hossain said he was in Dhaka when the attack took place.
Our party men were not involved in the attack and vandalism, he claimed.
Mahbubur Rahman, officer in-charge of Shreenagar police station, said they were investigating the matter.
