Ferry movement on Maowa-Kawrakandi route resumes after 9 hours of suspension due to dense fog

Ferry services on Maowa-Kawrakandi route resumed at 9:15am today (Wednesday) after nine hours of suspension due to thick fog.

Four Kawrakandi-bound ferries from Maowa ghat got stuck in the middle of Padma River and returned to the ghat after losing direction as heavy fog covered the whole area.

Sirajul Islam, manager of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) said, “Ferry movement was disrupted from 12:00am and resumed at 9:15am with the disappearance of the fog.”

Disruption in ferry services created long traffic congestion on both sides of the river causing immense sufferings to thousands of stranded passengers, especially women and children.
