Miscreants have vandalised idols of a temple in Munshiganj, a week after a similar incident in Chittagong. The incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday at Deulbhog Kali Temple under Srinagar Upazila.
“The incident might have resulted from a long standing dispute over the temple lands,” local MP Sukumar Ranjan Ghosh said after visiting the spot.
“Practice of communal tolerance is up to the mark here,” he added.
On Sep 11, some drunk six youths led by one Mohammad Masud of the adjacent Muslim-dominated area stormed the temple at Gosaildanga in the port city around 10:45pm by breaking an iron gate and wooden doors.
Srinagar police chief Shakhawat Hossain told bdnews24.com that one Mizanur Rahman, 30, was arrested out of suspicion.
“The Durga idols were being built ahead of upcoming festivals,” he added.
Kajol Das, president of the temple committee, filed a case with Srinagar police. “Despite a sudden agitation among the Hindu community of the area, the situation is under control,” he added.
