A 24-year housewife, who was pregnant, found dead in her house at village Daharee at Tongibari in Munshiganj Monday night. The victim was Kohinoor Begum, daughter of Madu Haolader of the village and wife of Saha Alam Sheikh. She was survived by a 2-year daughter.
The victim’s relatives complained that her in-law hung her after torturing her to death for dowry.
Her brother, Nayem Haolader, told New Age that she was married to Saha Alam Sheikh, son of Abdul Sheikh of village Purapara under the upazila four years ago.
During marriage, four tolas of gold including other household furniture were given as dowry, but Saha Alam’s family demanded additional Tk 2 lakh few months after the marriage, he said.
He also said the in-laws tortured her for the dowry for a long time, and at last Kohinoor’s family members agreed to pay the dowry after coming Eid this year.
‘My sister did not hang herself. Her in-laws killed her by suffocation,’ he said.
He also complained that he had filed a complaint against Saha Alam Sheikh, 32, his brother Shahin Sheikh, 26, his sister Selina, 28 and his mother, but the Tongibari police was yet to record the case and receive it as first information report.
Tongibari police officer-in-charge Abdullah admitted that they had received a complaint.
The body was sent to Munshiganj General Hospital for post mortem examination and we will launch our drive after receiving post mortem examination report.
