Customs officials at Hazrat Shahjalal (R) International Airport seized foreign currencies worth Tk 1.22 crore and arrested a man in this connection on Wednesday.
Arrested Babu Sarkar, who was scheduled to fly to Dubai, was carrying the money in seven types of currencies including US dollar, Saudi Riyal, Dubai Dirham and Kuwaiti Dinar.
Superintendent of Custom intelligence Samsul Islam Khan told the Daily Star that Babu was arrested from the departure lounge before getting on a Dubai-bound Qatar Airways flight at about 8:00am.
Later, the custom authorities found the wads of foreign currencies in carbon paper-made packets while checking his luggage.
Babu hailed from Gazaria in Munshiganj was being interrogated by the custom authorities at the airport.
