To mark the 111th birth anniversary of National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam, a daylong Nazrul Mela, to be organised by private satellite channel Channel-i, will be held at its Tejgaon office today. The festival will be aired live on Channel i from 11:05am to 4:00pm.
Country’s one of the leading, veteran Nazrul artiste Firoza Begum will be honoured with lifetime achievement award for her contribution in the field of Nazrul songs.
The daylong event will be jointly inaugurated by noted Nazrul artistes Shohrab Hossain, Sudhin Das, Ferdousi Rahman and Khalid Hossain and renowned artists and cultural personalities.
The daylong festival will also feature presentation of Nazrul songs by noted singers of the country. Recitations from Nazrul’s works, dance performance, discussions on the works of Nazrul and depictions of Nazrul’s portrait will also be included in the programme.
Eminent artists including Hashem Khan, Biren Shome, Monirul Islam, Moniruzzaman, Shahid Kabir and Mohammad Iqbal will depict portrait of Kazi Nazrul Islam at the programme.
The sale proceeds will be spent on the research works on Nazrul. A painting exhibition by children will also be held on the occasion.
A discussion by the noted writers and researchers will also be take place on the festival premises.
A press conference was held at the Channel i Tejgaon office on Sunday to disclose the details of the programmes. Managing Director of Channel i Faridur Reza Sagar, artist Hashem Khan, novelist Imdadul Haque Milon and Chief Marketing Officer of mobile phone operator Robi Bidyut Kumar Basu, among others, spoke at the conference.
Twenty stalls will be set up in the ‘Nazrul Mela’ where books written by Nazrul, and on Nazrul by other writers will be put on display. Some rare photographs of Nazrul will also be displayed at the programme, said the organisers.
