First National Rugby begins today

The Diamond Melamine First National Rugby Competition begins today at the Dhaka Outer Stadium in Paltan Maidan. Bangladesh Rugby Association will arrange the rugby tournament with the financial assistance of Diamond Melamine Industries Private Limited.

A total of eight teams splitting into two groups will take part in the seven-day long rugby meet.

Dhaka District team, Narail District team, Faridpur District team, Bagerhat District team have been pencilled in Group A while Chittagong District team, Munshiganj District team, Comilla District team, Gaibandha District team have been billed in Group B.

Top two teams from each group will play in the semifinal on July 31.

The winners of the two semifinals will face each other in the final on August 1.

To mark the ensuing rugby tournament, a press conference was held at the conference room of National Sports Council on Saturday. General Secretary of Bangladesh Rugby Association Mousum Ali, Secretary of the Organising Committee Bashir Ahmed, Managing Director of the Diamond Melamine Private Industries Limited Md Moktar Hossain were present at the conference.

The budget of the tournament has been estimated at Tk two lakh while Diamond Melamine Private Industries Limited has given Tk one lakh and twenty thousand to Bangladesh Rugby Association. The association will bear rest of the expenditure from their own fund.

Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Youth and Sports Zahid Ahsan Russel MP will formally open the rugby competition as the chief guest while Managing Director of the Diamond Melamine Private Industries Limited Md Moktar Hossain will be present with him as the special guest.
