The construction of the long-cherished new gas pipeline began in Munshiganj yesterday.
Petrobangla Chairman Maj (retd) M Muktadir Ali formally inaugurated the pipeline laying work at a function at Char Muktarpur.
Titas officials hoped that the suffering of 8,000 customers would go after setting up of 12 inches parallel pipeline alongside the existing eight inches old line.
The seven-and-half kilometre gas pipeline would connect Panchaboti and Muktarpur and its projected expenditure has been fixed at Tk 5.50 crore.
Officials said gas crisis in industries and houses would be resolved after setting up the gas pipeline.
The existing 8.00 million cubic feet per day (MMCFD) gas supply in the district would be increased to 17.00 MMCFD with this new gas line.
Officials said the construction would be finished as quickly as possible.
