A speedy trial tribunal of Dhaka sentenced all the three accused to death in the sensational Mubarak murder in Munshiganj yesterday. Judge Md Nurul Huda of Speedy Trial Tribunal-3 in Dhaka delivered the verdict after examining depositions of 25 witnesses, out of 30.
The court also fined the convicts Tk 20,000 each. The convicts are Jahangir Alam Khokon, 40, of Faridpur, Rashidul Islam Sagor, 30, of Ronos village of Munshiganj and Quayum, 36, of Gualand upazila of Rajbari. Quayum was tried in absentia. Haji Abdul Awal, father of victim Mubarak of Chor Sayeedpur village of Narayanganj, expressed his satisfaction at the verdict, saying that no father should lose his son like him. According to the prosecution, the convicts, Mubarak’s business partners, dumped his body to a pond of Tontorer Paragaon of Srinagar upazila in Munshiganj after thrashing his head with bricks. The body was recovered on April 13, two days after Mubarak’s missing from a shop in the Mukterpur ferry ghat area on April 11. Earlier, a village arbitration settled that his business partners would pay him Tk 3 lakh as he decided not to run business with them. In the name of paying the amount, the convicts took Mubarak to Dhaka and killed him. Later they left the body in the pond. A murder case was filed with Munshiganj Sadar Police Station, which later shifted to Speedy Trial Tribunal as sensational murder case.
